What are signs of roof damage?

Some common signs of roof damage could include water damage that is visible from inside of the home, missing shingles, and damaged fascia and soffit. If your roof needs to be repaired or replaced, we can help with all of your roofing needs.

Water Damage and Mold

One of the most common things you’ll see with a damaged roof is water damage and mold on the inside of the house. Water damage can be anything from bubbled paint, swelling ceilings, water stains and streaks on the inside walls, and visible water running down the walls. In more serious cases, this water damage will be accompanied by fungi, creating moss or mold spots up and down the walls.

Missing Roof Shingles

Shingles help seal out the weather from affecting the roof underneath them. When you’re missing roof shingles, water can damage the roof underneath, which can then result in roof leaks. Rough weather and wind can pull shingles off over time. Animals like birds, raccoons, cats, and possums can quite literally pull the shingles off of your roof one by one. If you spot a patch of missing shingles on your roof, don’t delay in replacing the shingles immediately. Shingle repairs are cheap and easy, and if they’re caught early, they’ll save you lots of money by preventing roof and water damage.

Weakened and Damaged Roof Shingles

Older shingles are often weakened and damaged by weather elements over time. If they’ve lost their asphalt granule textures, the bare shingles don’t work as well. If they’re curling around the edges or folded in half, they can’t protect the roof as intended. Weakened shingles are much harder to spot than missing or damaged shingles. If it’s been a long time since your roof has been replaced, but can’t afford to replace the roof yet, take a look at the condition of your shingles.

Sagging and Drooping Areas of the Roof

If the roof on your Idaho Falls home is sagging, you’ll need to fix the problems that caused it to sag in the first place. This could be a rain gutter issue, a water damage issue due to other roof damage, or structural damage from excess weight from snow. The structure’s tilt or sagging can be corrected without replacing the roof, but time is of the essence in noticing the problem and correcting it. Over time the sag will worsen and have a higher probability of collapsing.

Damaged Fascia and Soffit

The roof’s overhanging architectural structures are called the soffit and fascia. If you’re finding that your soffit and fascia are cracked, old, or missing, can indicate water damage or a problem with the gutter’s draining system.

Rain Gutter Rust

If you’re noticing rust on your gutters, it’s actually a sign that you might have roof damage too. Rain gutter rust is typically caused when the seals on the rain gutters begin to break down. There isn’t much you can do to fix the rust, so you’ll need to replace the seals. If the seals on your gutter are beginning to wear out, it’s a great idea to also check your roof for seal damage. If you’ve found your rain gutters are beyond repair, we can help you install a new rain gutter system.
